Snow monitoring and climate modelling in Lesotho
The team is developing an easy-to-use and accurate satellite-based snow cover product of Lesotho for local stakeholders and the World Bank’s technical teams. Satellite data processing by the University of Bern, namely the development of a snow product based on long-term MODIS data, has successfully proceeded. A MERIS test data set for selected clear-sky days is available and serves as input for product inter-comparison and evaluation. In addition, Landsat data are available for validation purposes. To ensure that the final product is tailored to the users’ needs, the development process needs to be accompanied by a user dialogue. Contacts at the World Bank’s Task Teams in Washington and Lesotho could be identified and now help to establish the dialogue with potential local users in Lesotho. |
